Shoes! Shoes! And More Shoes!

I love shoes! And it is always fun for me to read books about things that I love because the children and parents feel my excitement. My current favorite book is Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin. I bet I read this book 5 dozen times this last year (I’m also the reason we have it in our catalog). If I go into a Kindergarten classroom without Pete the kids are NOT happy.

To accompany the reading I created colored flannel sneakers:

I add a sneaker each time Pete steps in something new and then remove them as the water washes away the colors.

In addition to the sneakers I created other flannel shoes to introduce the theme during storytime. I will give a few hints about who might wear a certain type of shoe and encourage the children to guess before putting it up on the board.
